Chelsea Building Society: Scots make savvy savers

People from the Scottish cities of Edinburgh and Glasgow are among the most judicious savers in the land, new research indicates.

A survey of 4,000 people conducted by Chelsea Building Society shows that the average consumer from Glasgow has £15,000 in savings.

Some 15 per cent of people hailing from Edinburgh have stashed away £30,000, while one in 20 people from the city save £500 each month.

Commenting upon the findings, Vicki O'Connell, spokesperson for the group, said it was "interesting to see the different [saving] trends in different parts of the country", with people from Leeds believed to be the most apathetic savers in the land.

"We have a range of product to suit all savings habits, whether it be small regular amounts or larger savings for that something special," continued Ms O'Connell.

Chelsea accounts offer a highly competitive deal to customers, with a bonus Chelsea account currently offering an annual bonus if consumers make less than three withdrawals a year.
