American Express motor insurance 'competitive'

With the cost of running a car in the UK continually, motorists are being encouraged to search around for the most competitive car insurance packages on offer.

The latest survey carried out by American Express indicates that over half (57 per cent) of customers shop around for their motor insurance.

This is despite many drivers indicating that they have to alter their driving behaviour due to rising petrol costs.

Of the 10,000 customers who participated in the survey, a fifth said their driving habits had been changed by rising petrol costs.

Some 15 per cent of respondents drove less, ten per cent had changed to a more economical car, while one per cent used more public transport.

Joanne Field, marketing manager of American Express Motor Insurance, said: "The cost of motoring seems to rise year-on-year and whilst there is little motorists can do to cut the cost of fuel or road tax, insurance is one area where real savings can be made."

American Express motor insurance believes it can save customers up to £109 on their insurance, with customers taking on the package online benefiting from a further five per cent discount.
