Halifax: Secure garden possessions over bank holiday

If weather permits, bank holidays can be some of the most enjoyable times of the year, when families get the opportunity to indulge themselves in the sunshine.

But with people more likely to leave garden implements and other possessions on their lawns over the period, Nationwide is urging them to be as vigilant as possible.

Some of the items most likely to be taken from homeowners' lawns include garden furniture, bicycles, garden ornaments and statues.

Other items thieves find attractive include toys, garden machinery, clothes from washing lines and flowerpots.

Purchasing a Nationwide insurance package may be a savvy move, as it offers up to £1,000 worth of cover as standard for loss or damage to contents in gardens.

Nationwide's insurance director, Robin Bailey, said: "Unfortunately we cannot secure our gardens as easily as our homes but, by finding a provider which offers garden cover as standard, people can help protect themselves should they ever need to make a claim."

Customers will receive a ten per cent discount when purchasing Nationwide home insurance online.
