Birmingham Midshires lauds account switching 'proactivity'

Birmingham Midshires is celebrating the news that increasing numbers of people are showing a proactive approach to their finances by switching account provider.

Research carried out by the group shows that well over one in ten (13 per cent) of consumers have switched their account in the last quarter.

Of these, almost a quarter said that their savings account no longer met their needs, while poor customer service levels influenced another eight per cent to change their savings patterns.

People from the north-east (nine per cent) were seen to be the most proactive in their account-switching during the period, while East Anglians were found to be the most apathetic of all respondents.

Commenting on the results, Jason Robinson, director of savings for Birmingham Midshires, said: "More and more Brits are awakening to the fact that they need to take a proactive approach to their savings."

He added: "This is an encouraging trend and we strongly urge all savers to regularly review their savings account to ensure they are getting the best deal possible."
