AA Legal Services: Britons identify inheritance 'uncertainty'

Over two-thirds of young Britons fear they will be saddled with a great deal of debt when their parents pass away.

A survey of some 2,600 parents and children by AA Legal Services shows that well over four-fifths of respondents are concerned about what will happen to their parent's will.

A lack of communication is also perturbing children, with well over a quarter of parents not having told their children about the details of the will.

James Molloy, head of AA Legal Services, said that concern about the cost of care homes and equity release schemes and the increasing prospect of debt among older people was "changing the way many young people view the concept of inheritance".

He added: "As young families take on bigger and bigger debts to get a foot on the property ladder, few are banking on a future inheritance to help clear the mortgage."

Mr Molloy urged that people who wanted to take the strain out of dealing with wills could have such issues demystified with AA Legal Services.
