Nationwide accounts a 'savvy saving option'

Nationwide savings accounts are being lauded as some of the best vehicles in which to accumulate a fund base.

Research carried out by the group indicates that over three-quarters of respondents save money using saving accounts.

Well over two-fifths of consumers said they saved from time to time when they had spare funds.

Attractive features in savings accounts for consumers include no-notice withdrawal periods, high interest rates and the ability to manage the account online.

Matthew Carter, divisional director for mortgages and saving at the group, said that a Nationwide saving account could be the "perfect solution to encourage people to save".

He added: "Savers also have the flexibility of knowing that they can vary the amount they save or even take a break from saving if they need to, without forfeiting the account and the interest rate is even guaranteed to track the Bank of England base rate until January 2010."
