Cornhill Direct: Homeworkers require 'good' cover

With flexible working practices becoming ever more common, those employees working from home are being encouraged to ensure they are suitably covered.

Cornhill Direct speculates that the majority of people who work from home should be covered by their employer's insurance.

However, it advises that anyone considering setting up their own business should check they have the right cover.

With Cornhill Direct insurance packages, consumers can take on a homeworker extension, which enables them to have £10,000 cover for business contents and up to £10 million employer's liability cover.

Mark Bishop, a spokesperson for Cornhill Direct, said: "Homeworkers do need to consider the insurance implications because equipment used for commercial purposes may not be adequately covered or covered at all by a standard home insurance policy, particularly if removed from the home.
"There is also the potential liability issue to consider if a customer or business associate visits their home and is injured," he added.
