Bank Holiday travellers in journey planning call

Britons getting out in their cars to enjoy the forthcoming Bank Holiday weekend are being encouraged to make suitable contingency plans to counter any eventuality.

Research carried out by insurer esure motor insurance indicates that almost half of Britons are intending to travel over the Whitsun Bank Holiday.

The group predicts that of the 15.2 Brits planning to travel, 5.6 million motorists are set to face the hassle of delays stretching to over an hour, despite almost two-thirds saying they will choose a quieter time to make their journeys.

Mike Pickard, head of risk and underwriting at esure, said that drivers should carry out a number of checks before heading off on their Bank Holiday excursions.

Checking fuel, meticulously planning routes as well as taking supplies of food and water are being recommended.

"Drivers should make sure that they, their vehicle and their passengers are prepared for the journey," Mr Pickard added.
