Leeds bond 'extended'

Leeds Building Society is extending its two-year fixed-rate bond by securing a further tranche.

Necessitating a minimum balance of £5,000, the Leeds account is paying at a rate of 6.20 per cent until July 2009.

The package also has an option for those people who want their interest to be paid, with the account paying at 6.12 per cent for such a service.
Customers can also benefit from one penalty-free withdrawal from their Leeds account at any time.

Karen Wint, head of marketing at the group, said the group had been "inundated" with customers looking to get their hands on the package.

"The obvious benefits of this product have proved extremely popular and as a result, we have managed to secure a further tranche. However, I would urge customers to act very quickly to avoid disappointment," she said.

For more information on the Leeds account, customers should call into their local branch, call the savings hotline or visit the Leeds website.
