Insurers 'improving' eco-friendly packages

Many groups are staring to roll out competitively priced eco-friendly insurance policies, according to moneysupermarket.com.

Research carried out by the group indicates that CIS has rolled out a package with competitive premiums.

As part of the policy, CIS is committed to investing in third world education schemes, reforestation and renewable energy sources to offset carbon emissions.

Richard Mason, director of insurance at the price comparison site, hoped that ibuyeco and More Than would unveil similar packages.

Mr Mason said: "Many drivers are concerned about their impact on the environment and in an effort to 'go green' have been be tempted to opt for eco-friendly insurance."

He described how earlier this year he had "called on insurers to make green premiums more competitive or else concerned motorists could simply shop around for the cheapest deal that met their needs and give some of the money they saved to eco-friendly causes".
