Check your finances

Customers are being encouraged to take some time out to tend to their financial needs.

The British Bankers' Association (BBA) recommends that customers implement a checklist format into their financial arrangements.

As part of the group's Fit for Finance checklist, customers are being asked to assess whether they pay their credit card balance in full, how and where they borrow money and whether money needs to be borrowed in the short-term.

Consumers should also ascertain whether they have any plans in place to repay debt and repayments.

Angela Knight, chief executive of the BBA, said that by taking a little time to plan, consumers could "ensure…finances are in good shape and you have the right banking and borrowing services in place".

She added: "It is vital that you set aside some time every month to review your bank statement. This is the clearest indicator of your financial fitness and can help you to plan your financial needs for the future."
