Nationwide International has announced it will be launching a new base rate tracker offshore savings account from Monday 2nd July.

The Nationwide account will pay at a rate of six per cent, which is guaranteed to match or beat the Bank of England base rate for at least 12 months.

After this period, the Nationwide account will be guaranteed to pay at a rate at least 0.25 per cent below the base rate until January 2010.

The package is highly flexible, with four penalty withdrawals of any amount being permitted each financial year.

A minimum balance of £5,000 will be required to open the Nationwide International account.

Carl Gandy, managing director of Nationwide International, said the new Nationwide account "combines one of the best interest rates in the offshore market with the flexibility of easy access for investors".

He added: "What's more, the account offers a rate guarantee linked to the Bank of England base rate, which makes it a good choice for anyone looking for security for their money."
