Halifax student account a 'good choice'

Halifax has announced details of its student current account for the 2007/08 academic year.

The package is available to students once they have been guaranteed a place by a university and will offer an interest-free overdraft of up to £2,750 from the first year of study.

The interest-free overdraft on the Halifax account will continue for one year after students have graduated.

Halifax shows that a number of other major financial providers offer a graded overdraft facility which only increases up to £2,000 in the fifth year of study.

Student Halifax accounts also offer generous discounts on AA breakdown cover, if cards are lost or stolen as well as a ten per cent reduction on World Explorer Travel insurance.

Paul Marriott Clarke, head of banking at Halifax, said: "These increased interest free overdrafts could mean a significant saving over a three-year course of study - far better value than a record token or other gimmicks."
