Coventry account designed for 'older consumers'

Coventry Building Society has designed a new account with older people targeted specifically in mind.

The 60-plus esave account provides a certainty of a fixed-rate for older consumers as well as providing easy access online.

According to Colin Franklin, head of sales at the building society, a third of customers over the age of 60 said they would be comfortable dealing with their finances online.

He added: "We also recognise that not all people want to conduct their financial transactions online and other accounts exclusively for the over 60s are available through our branches or by telephone."

He said that the long-term guarantees and fixed income which many of Coventry Building Society's accounts were important to older people because "they are retired or approaching retirement".

The Coventry account currently offers a rate of 6.20 per cent which will be fixed until March 31st 2008.

The account is opened and operated online and the minimum investment is £1 with a maximum of £250,000.
