Equity release 'funds comfortable lifestyle'

A number of Britons are releasing equity on their homes to fund a better lifestyle, according to a spokesperson for Intune Group.

Glenn Osgood, partnership manager at Intune, a subsidiary of Help The Aged, said that there was a lot of confidence in the market to release equity now.

"With the advent of the FSA regulation that covers the lifetime mortgage and reversion schemes, there's a lot more consumer confidence in the market place," he said.

This contrasted to a period in the 1980s when a number of people ended up losing their homes.

Mr Osgood said that many people release equity from their property in order to fund a better lifestyle in retirement.

He also said that inheritance was not such an important issue for children, adding that a number of children are enquiring on behalf of their parents to release equity from their property.
