Contents insurance 'key' for FTBs

People investing in bricks and mortar for the first time are being encouraged to invest in a suitable contents insurance package.

According to Martin Hall, head of personal research at Zurich Insurance, while getting onto the property ladder is a major hurdle, people are "neglecting to have contents insurance to protect their property".

He added: "With so many things to consider when buying a property and when you're new to the game it can all be a little overwhelming, but making sure you're covered is one of the most important aspects."

The insurer's study of over 1,000 first-time buyers also found that a great number are choosing to locate themselves near their family.

Almost a quarter of Britons cite being close to their family home as begin a crucial deciding factor in their choice of home.

First-time buyers in the north of the country are most likely to stay closest to home, research from the group shows.
