Insurance premiums 'not rising' after floods

Home insurance premiums have not risen in the aftermath of the flooding which has affected many homes in England in recent weeks, price comparison site moneysupermarket.com believes.

This is despite the group estimating that insurance package applications in the areas worst affected by flooding, including Sheffield, Doncaster, Hull, the West Midlands and parts of Scotland increased by 300 per cent.

Richard Mason, director of insurance at moneysupermarket.com, said: "The increase in the number of people applying from areas affected by heavy rain is no surprise."

He also said that homeowners in areas which could be affected by flooding in the near future are much more sensitive to the problems which might ensue if they do not have an insurance package.

Commenting upon the possibility that one million of the estimated 2.3 million homes built on flood plains in the UK could be blacklisted, Mr

Mason urged people to "buy good-quality home insurance immediately".

"Doing so ensures they will continue to be covered regardless of what happens in the future," he added.
