Government driving licence proposal 'welcomed'

Churchill Insurance fully backs government plans to raise the minimum driving age in Britain by a year to 18.

Research carried out by the group indicates that almost three-quarters of Britons take at least one year to learn how to drive.

Almost one in ten drivers spend five years learning to become competent motorists on our roads and pass their test.

Frances Browning, spokesperson for Churchill Insurance, said: "Our research illustrates just how prudent and necessary these new proposals are. If learner drivers, particularly those aged under 25, invest in their training, they will become better drivers, have fewer accidents, and help make Britain's roads safer for all drivers."

The group also noted the kinds of incident which prevent people from passing their test at a first attempt, with a fifth not observing properly at junctions and the same proportion did not reverse park sufficiently well.

Ms Browning said that the group "fully support" the government's decision to raise the minimum driving age.
