AA Car Insurance: Postcodes "certainly" affect premiums

AA Car Insurance has confirmed what many motorists had perhaps suspected - that the premiums people pay is affected by where they live.

Ian Crowder, spokesman for AA, said that the biggest factors on the cost of car insurance are age and sex, but added that postcodes "certainly" make a difference too.

"If you're in an inner city area and you leave your car on the street you could pay three times the premium of somebody on the outskirts of town in a leafy cul-de-sac with their car parked in the garage," he revealed.

He added that there are ways in which car owners can bring down their premiums - for example, a young driver could take the Pass Plus qualification.

As well as providing motoring breakdown cover, insurance, loans and other financial aid, AA also provides knowledge and advice on transport issues.
