Sainsbury's Bank: Online quotes are a growing trend

While obtaining an insurance quote over the phone remains popular, using the internet is increasingly common, according to Sainsbury's Bank.

Natasha Virtue, communications manager at the bank, said that there is "a growing trend" for people to seek out quotes on insurance products online.

"We've found, in terms of our insurance, that people are comfortable with getting quotes for their pet, for example, or their travel insurance – right across the whole range," she said.

"We actually even provide quotes for our life insurance and people are comfortable with that."

Ms Virtue claimed that customers now have two avenues open to them, and can even do their research via the internet before calling to speak to an adviser.

Among the products offered by Sainsbury's Bank are insurance, credit cards, savings and loans.

Sainsbury's became the first major UK supermarket to open a bank in February 1997.
