Brits would pay more for a garden, says Halifax

The majority of people in the UK would be willing to pay more for a property that has a garden, according to Halifax Estate Agents.

Almost eight out of ten (78 per cent) respondents to the firm's survey revealed that they would pay a premium to have a garden.

On average, Brits would be prepared to pay £10,000 to have somewhere to sit outside, though one in 20 said they would pay above £30,000.

"Our research shows that many of us will pay a premium for a property with a garden," said Colin Kemp, managing director at Halifax.

"Making the most of your homes outside space could add real value and maximise any sale price."

Last month, Legal & General Insurance claimed that two-thirds of people in the UK (67 per cent) do not intend to buy anything for their garden this season.
