The insurer's Premier home contents insurance policy provides cover of up to £5,000 per claim to any household member who is away at university.
As well as covering against standard risks such as theft and flood, the policy provides year-round cover - not just during term time.
"Many students already find it a considerable financial struggle to make ends meet and one of the last things they need is to have to pay out to replace stolen possessions. However, arranging insurance can be as simple as speaking to mum and dad," said Laura Wood from NFU Mutual.
Meanwhile, moneysupermarket.com has advised prospective students to look past opening offers at banks when deciding what account is best for them.
