Next stage for Hips announced

The next stage of the rollout of home information packs (Hips) and energy performance certificates (EPCs) has been unveiled by the government.

Communities and Local Government announced that the packs will be rolled out to three-bedroom properties from September 10th. They were launched for homes with four bedrooms and above from August 1st.

It is hoped that the introduction of Hips and EPCs will improve domestic energy efficiency by giving homes an energy rating of A to G.

"They also have the potential to reduce the millions of pounds wasted by consumers when buying and selling a home, by increasing transparency and competition in a process that hasn't changed for a generation," added communities minister Baroness Andrews.

The Energy Savings Trust has claimed measures outlined in the EPC will save consumers an average of £300 a year on fuel bills.

Last month, The National Home Improvement Council said only 16 per cent of homes in the UK are insulated to the required level to reduce carbon emissions.
