Abbey Isa knows no limit

Abbey has highlighted the accessibility of its individual savings account (Isa) offering as it revealed a lack of similar flexibility at other providers.

While customers can open an Isa at any of Abbey's UK branches, one in nine providers have restrictions in place.

For example, some institutions require the account holder to live within 25 miles of the branch, while others require a minimum investment of £1,000.

"It seems amazing that so many accounts have bizarre local restrictions, which could make a number of people ineligible for accounts," said Abbey's head of savings and investments
Reza Attar-Zadeh.

"Abbey has no local restrictions on its cash Isas, and allows savers to open Isas throughout its 708 branches."

Last month, Abbey revealed that 21 per cent of Isas on the market offer only one way of accessing the account, with a further 43 per cent allowing just two ways.
