Car insurance premiums rising, says Sainsbury's

Drivers are shelling out a steadily increasing amount on car insurance premiums, according to Sainsbury's.

In July, the average cost of a car insurance premium stood at £486.43, which marked an increase of 4.2 per cent compared to the same month last year, Sainsbury's research found.

And men are still paying a significant amount more than women for their car insurance premiums.

Lucy Hunter, Sainsbury's Car Insurance manager, commented: "Premiums have been rising steadily and it has been predicted that this year, they could increase by as much as ten per cent.

"However, by shopping around, you can still reduce your premiums significantly."

A significant amount of motorists do not bother to compare prices when looking for car insurance, Ms Hunter added.

A full one in five drivers admitted that they only looked at one car insurance deal when they bought a policy, Sainsbury's found.

Meanwhile, the car insurer Admiral has posted profits far exceeding expectations, reports the Western Mail.
