Co-operative Bank launches business fund for poor

People looking to bank in a more ethical way might be interested to hear of a new scheme in which the Co-operative Bank is involved.

The bank has created a fund of £25 million in order to assist small start-up businesses in the world's poorest regions.

Co-operative, which is also a member of the Global Commercial Microfinance Consortium, has an ethical policy which details to customers how their money is used.

"Our involvement in microfinance clearly demonstrates to our customers the mechanics of how our ethical stance really works and shows how their money, when invested with the bank, can make a real difference in tackling global poverty," said Richard Wilcox, head of structures and asset finance at the bank.

Cooperative recently launched a new two-year tracker mortgage that comes with a range of environmental features, including a free home energy report with their property evaluation.
