Abbey: East Midlands entrepreneurs are UK's happiest

More self-employed people in the East Midlands are happy with their choice than in any other area of the UK, it has been revealed.

Abbey found that more than none out of ten East Midlands entrepreneurs are glad they turned their back on working for another person.

However, more than half of those who have started their own business in Wales admitted to the bank that they would return to the 'nine to five'.

Ian Wilson, managing director of business banking at Abbey, said that choosing to go it alone can be "tough but rewarding".

"The benefits of running your own business obviously outweigh the negatives. Once people have taken the plunge they are unlikely to want to return to their old lifestyle no matter what problems they may encounter," he said.

Other research by Abbey has revealed that Britons lend each other £510 million a year - averaging out at £116 per loan.
