Legal and General: Workers should take more breaks

British workers need to take more breaks from work, a recent survey from the insurer Legal & General has found.

A full 23 per cent of employees in Britain professed to never taking a break from work, the research discovered.

And seven per cent do not take vacations, while one in four employees are unhappy with their work-life balance.

Dr John Delfosse, company medical officer for Legal & General's Group Protection business, said: "Work is very important to many people providing purpose, self-worth and fulfilment, but for some, particularly those with heavy work responsibilities, they may become absorbed in their daily routine and so do not take timeout for themselves during the day.

"This can lead to increased pressure and stress."

If stress is prolonged then it could have physical and mental repercussions leading to health problems, added Dr Delfosse.

Meanwhile, Gordon Brown has promised to get 500,000 Britons without jobs back into work.
