Abbey Current Accounts: Brits want more gifts

Many Britons believe that their partners do not show their affection through buying them enough gifts, a survey from Abbey has found.

A full 5.9 million people would like their partner to spend more on them and 792,000 people have admitted that they have split up with someone because they did not spend enough money on them.

The average Briton spends £1,569 per year showing their partner how much they mean to them, the survey showed.

Steve Shore, head of banking at Abbey, said: "Love doesn't come cheap. It costs over £1,500 a year to be in a relationship and love keeps on getting more expensive as you get older."

Of the people who admitted to breaking up with their partner due to lack of monetary affection, 40 per cent were aged 18-24, the research showed.

Meanwhile, a poll from the Relaxation for Living Institute found that relationships are the third biggest stress factors in life, after jobs and money, reports the Telegraph.
