Lloyds TSB insurance predictions

The last time that England won the Rugby World Cup, Lloyds TSB received a number of bizarre insurance claims and is expecting this to happen again if the team wins.

Flicking through its November 22nd 2003 archives, Lloyds TSB found several cases where rugby fans displayed strange behaviour, which led them to make an insurance claim.

In one instance, a fan spilt boiling oil all over the kitchen surfaces while trying to make a mid-match dish of fish and chips.

In another case, a nylon England flag caught fire when a rugby supporter let it get too close to his ashtray, resulting in blackened walls.

Phil Loney, managing director of Lloyds TSB Insurance said: "The tension of the Rugby World Cup final four years ago clearly took its toll on the nation's homes.

"If insurance claims can be this bizarre when we win the rugby, our claims managers will have more than one reason to keep their fingers crossed that we don't lose this weekend."

The final between England and South Africa takes place at the Stade de France on Saturday October 20th.
