Abbey savings bonds released

A new tranche of fixed-term branch-based savings accounts have been launched by Abbey, the bank announced.

The Abbey savings bonds offer up to 6.35 per cent gross and can be purchased in three and six-month terms.

Reza Attar-Zadeh, director of savings and investments at Abbey, said that the Abbey savings bonds are a great opportunity for people who do not want to commit to a one-year bond.

He commented: "Our savings bond range has proved very popular so far this year.

"We expect the fantastic rates we have on offer will appeal to customers looking for competitive return over the shorter term as opposed to the typical minimum one-year term."

Earlier this month, Abbey issues a range of short-term savings ebonds which offered rates of up to 6.40 per cent gross. Those ebonds require a £1,000 minimum opening balance.
