Halifax Travel Insurance: Get fit before doing winter sport

Halifax Travel Insurance has suggested that people who are thinking of skiing or snowboarding on their winter holidays should ensure they are fit enough to participate.

Research from the company found that 38 per cent of those partaking in these outdoor activities last year did not believe they had prepared enough ahead of time.

The survey respondents also reported that they felt the most pain after the third day on the slopes and 19 per cent confessed they felt lucky to have escaped major injury.

Paul Birkhead, senior manager of pricing and underwriting for Halifax Travel Insurance, commented: "We process a significant number of claims each year from skiers and boarders that have been forced to cut their winter holiday short as a result of an injury."

He added that "prevention is better than the cure" and recommended "a few months of pre-holiday training" to build stamina.

Previous research from Halifax Travel Insurance indicated that Britons drive 15 billion miles each year on road trips.
