New customers who choose an Abbey credit card from December 3rd will be able to take advantage of free balance transfers for 13 months, the bank has announced.

Additionally, the current cashback deal which is available with Abbey credit cards has been extended until the end of the July for new customers and until the end of March for those who already have a card.

Roger Lovering, managing director of Abbey Credit Cards, said that the offer was extended due to its current popularity.

"It's part of our strategy to grow market share and keep it. The cashback offer was welcomed as innovative and we have more new ideas for next year," he remarked.

"It's the model that Santander uses and its one that we know will reinforce our position as a serious challenger to the 'big four'."

Research from Abbey Credit Cards reveals that three million Britons use their plastic on a daily basis.
