Abbey Home Insurance reveals shopping habits

A total of 2.9 million Britons began shopping for Christmas presents in January, new research from Abbey Home Insurance reveals.

However, the insurer has warned that those savvy shoppers may not have their purchases covered before the holiday season.

Prasad Shastri, head of Abbey Home Insurance, commented: "Preparing for Christmas early and spreading the cost of buying presents throughout the year is a sensible move.

"Sadly though too many insurance policies don’t take this into consideration and buying presents in advance of December, although very prudent, may leave you underinsured."

He added that many insurance policies with limited additional Christmas cover are "ineffective" and recommended Abbey Home Insurance's Peace of Mind policy, as it provides year-round coverage.

Recent research from Abbey Home Insurance found that Britons are holding on to a total of £50 million worth of inherited items.
