Rogue traders deceive thousands each year by posing as professionals and acting as door-to-door repairmen who offer to carry out work immediately for a very low quote, the bank said.
The resultant botched jobs, however, cost Britons over £1.36 million and the cost of rectifying the work could top £2 billion, said Lloyds TSB Insurance.
Bryan Berry, director of external affairs for the Federation of Master Builders, noted that quality tradesmen will have a queue of existing customers and would not have time to knock on potential customers' doors.
Many homeowners could be rushing repairs on damage to their property caused by this summer's flooding in order to finish it in time for Christmas, noted Phil Loney, Lloyds TSB Insurance managing director.
"It's equally important to ensure that the work is carried out safely and completed by qualified tradespeople," he said.
Lloyds TSB Insurance's home solutions buildings and contents cover recently earned a five star rating from Defaqto.
