Alliance & Leicester Mortgages: Brits want to be close to family

The Alliance & Leicester Mortgages movingimproving index highlights the importance of proximity to buyers nearest and dearest in the homebuying process, particularly among parents with children.
More than a third (36 per cent) of buyers with children choose a home because it is close to family or friends, as more working parents rely on family members for support and childcare.
Stephen Leonard, Alliance & Leicester director of mortgages, commented: "Although there are many factors to consider when moving home, such as easy access to transport, work and good schools, being close to family and friends is a key factor for many when looking to purchase a home for many buyers."
One in five respondents to the Alliance & Leicester poll stated that they plan to spend Christmas 2007 in their childhood home and one in ten movers would like to own or already own their childhood home, indicating that nostalgia can play a key role in property purchases.
Alliance & Leicester offers consumers a range of mortgage deals, from its Premier Fixed Rate home loan at 5.87 per cent, to tracker mortgages and a five-year discount mortgage at 6.19 per cent.
