Halifax Home Insurance contents cover warning

Homeowners should make sure they have sufficient contents cover for the holiday period, Halifax Home Insurance has warned.

Underinsurance is a common problem at this time of year, as many people do not update their insurance after obtaining additional cover for a temporary period around Christmas, which means that new possessions are not part of their policy.

David Rochester, senior underwriter for Halifax Home Insurance, commented: "Halifax customers can relax at Christmas as, unlike most insurers, it offers unlimited contents cover all year round.

"Although some insurers will increase contents cover over Christmas, this still leaves the problem of re-evaluating your contents in the New Year."

He added that it is essential for people who do not have unlimited cover to keep their insurer updated regarding the value of their home contents.

Recently, LV= warned homeowners to keep their possessions out of view of passersby to help prevent burglary.
