Halifax Credit Cards urges shoppers to know their rights

December and January are the most popular months for retail returns, according to Halifax Credit Cards, but shoppers should know their rights to minimise associated stress.

Halifax Credit Cards states that some 29 per cent more refunds on credit cards are made in December than any other month, with the average value £55.

In January, 12 per cent more refunds are made than the average, with £60 the typical transaction value.

Ken Stannard, head of Halifax Credit Cards, says during this time of heightened returns activity, consumers should ensure they know their rights.

He said with the correct knowledge of shopping rights, consumers can feel more relaxed when they have to return gifts or purchases during this stressful time of year.

"Savvy shoppers can spread the cost of their sale purchases and not pay any interest until 2009 with the Halifax 12-month credit card," Mr Stannard commented, saying that holders of these Halifax credit cards receive additional protection in addition to that afforded by the Sale of Goods Act.

Meanwhile, recent lending statistics by the British Bankers' Association for November revealed "subdued" unsecured lending in the run-up to Christmas.ADNFCR-323-ID-18407527-ADNFCR
