Prudential advises pension planners to "spread the risk"

Investing in a variety of investments of different classes is a good strategy for minimising risk, it has been claimed.

Ali Crossley, Prudential's retirement insurance director, said that people should "spread the risk" in order to ensure they are "not overexposed in any one asset class".

She described a trend of the past few years which saw people increasingly putting their money in property.

Ms Crossley advised Britons against investing solely in property, as the current market conditions in the UK may not continue indefinitely.

"Property has been a much relied upon asset class, and it's unwise, as we know from history, to over-depend on any one asset class," she explained.

She added: "Property has been good for us historically, in the UK and overseas, but it may not always be."

In the UK, Prudential has around seven million customers and claims to be a leading life and pensions provider in the country.
