Consumers 'should read fine print' of financial products

Those who are looking into buying financial products such as insurance should make sure they read all the details before committing, according to one expert.

Jock Cassidy of Ashley Law said that many people shopping around for insurance and other similar products may find that they are distracted by low prices.

"If people don't take the time to read the small print … then they'll go for the cheapest option. But it does depend on each person's circumstances," he explained.

He went on to speculate that many people may be drawn to a rival product because it offers a lower cost, although the long-term benefits may not be as clearly advantageous.

Those who have the money to do so often put their financial situation in the hands of an independent financial adviser, said Mr Cassidy.

Recently, chief executive of Unbiased.co.uk David Elms said that independent financial advisers are increasingly being located through its Find an IFA service.
