Post Office: Credit card holders to use plastic more

A new survey from the Post Office reveals that credit card holders plan to use their cards more than ever in the new year.

Some 41 per cent of respondents told the Post Office that they plan to use their credit card for routine daily purchases, such as those at the supermarket.

Around half of those with credit cards said they would be using them to shop in the January sales, while 28 per cent said they would be putting larger purchases - such as holidays - on plastic.

Post Office director of lending Gary Fitton said that the results may indicate that the results of Christmas overspending are forcing people to use credit to fund their purchases in the new year.

He added that consumers should be careful to shop around for the best deal, saying that a credit card that offers zero per cent on balance transfers or purchases "would be much better" than using a store or high-interest card.

The Post Office offers a variety of financial products, including credit cards.
