Barclays investment plan launched

Barclays is set to introduce a five-year regular income bond which is also offered as a growth option, the bank has announced.

To launch on January 18th, the bond is linked to the Dow Jones Stoxx 50 Index and provides investors with 7.25 per cent annually or 1.8 per cent quarterly.

The full capital which is invested is guaranteed to be returned unless the index drops by 40 per cent and does not recover by the time the bond matures.

A growth option which is also offered by the plan includes a return of up to 50 per cent at maturity.

Lisa Chaudhuri from Barclays Wealth said that the new bond is anticipated to be very popular.

"Demand for income producing plans has not abated and there is clear need for products that offer a good level of regular income with a quantifiable risk/reward profile," she remarked.

Previous to the most recent interest rate decision in the UK, Barclays Stockbrokers predicted that the Bank of England's monetary policy committee would cut rates by .25 per cent.
