Lloyds TSB: UK firms upbeat

Despite the prospect of a tough financial year, many British businesses are feeling optimistic about 2008, according to Lloyds TSB.

Research carried out by Lloyds TSB reveals that a balance of 18 per cent of UK firms are anticipating improved rather than worsening conditions during the next six months.

John Maltby, managing director, Lloyds TSB Commercial, said that it was "clear" there would be a cap on investment spending by many organisations.

However, he also suggested that British firms could use skills such as cash management and financial planning to help them through a tight time.

"There's no doubt 2008 will prove more of a challenge for many firms, but it's a ride most will be able to endure," Mr Maltby remarked.

Some 1,800 UK businesses were surveyed by Lloyds TSB.

Previous research by Lloyds TSB revealed that UK firms' pessimism over the economy was at its lowest point in the past five years.
