Caravan owners 'should check insurance'

Those who own caravans should make sure they check the limits on their policies before taking expensive items on holiday, it has been suggested.

According to the Association of British Insurers (ABI), caravan insurance policies can vary and people should make sure they know the details.

A spokesperson from the ABI explained that when a caravan is at a site or outside a person's home, it is covered by their home contents insurance. However, while being driven, it is covered by motor insurance.

"Check your policy limits for individual items and, if you're taking stuff away that is more expensive than your policy limits, then get it listed - on either your specialist caravan policy or your home insurance policy," she remarked.

Data from the Caravan Club indicates that 19 per cent of Britons take caravan holidays, while membership in the club is currently more than one million.
