Abbey launches new guaranteed investment products

Abbey will launch the latest in its range of guaranteed investment products linked to the FTSE 100 on Wednesday 6th February.

The products are designed to give investors access to the stock market with the security of a capital guarantee.

Abbey's Guaranteed Growth Plan offers a minimum return of six per cent over 3.5 years and 18 per cent over six years, as well as a 50 per cent participation in the FTSE 100 Index.

The Guaranteed Capital Plus scheme offers an 18 per cent return after 3.5 years and a 40 per cent return after six years if the FTSE 100 Index goes up by any amount at the end of the term and a guaranteed minimum return of two per cent for both terms.

The products are tax efficient as returns can be free of income and capital gains tax and require a minimum investment of £1,500.

Reza Attar-Zadeh, head of savings and investments at Abbey, noted that the stock market had been particularly volatile at the start of the year and said: "Abbey’s structured product range allows investors to benefit from any stock market growth without putting their capital at risk."

The FTSE suffered its biggest one-day fall since September 11th 2001 last month, prompting fears of a global recession.
