AA Insurance: Parents doubling-up as chauffeurs

It worked out that mums and dads could earn an extra £2,983 a year if they charged their kids for the taxi service.
Most of the mileage is clocked up taking children to after-school appointments and activities, with the average parent spending a total of six and a half days a year on after-school drives.
AA Insurance has launched an online calculator to help parents gauge the actual cost of transporting their offspring, which can be found at www.parentstaximeter.co.uk.
It has also warned that parents need to be extra-careful doing their usual car journeys, such as the school run or visits to the shop, as "over-familiarity with local roads and the mix of junctions, pedestrians and other vehicles can be a recipe for accidents".
Simon Douglas, director of AA Insurance, warned parents that "even for a five-minute journey it's vital to make sure children are properly belted up and safe".
The AA teamed up with its roadside patrols recently to identify seven types of motorists in distress, which included Mindful Mums and Fix-It First Fathers.
