Saga Pet Insurance reveals careless cats and dogs

A total of one in seven Saga Pet Insurance claims involves an allegation of an accident-prone dog or cat, the insurer has revealed.

The most common reasons for "clumsy" cats to be forced to go to the vet were injuries to the body, followed by an involvement in road traffic accidents.

Meanwhile, according to Saga Pet Insurance dogs are more likely to suffer injuries to their feet, as well as ligament damage.

The survey also highlighted the regions that had the clumsiest pets, with the Midlands at the top for cats and the south-east taking the top spot for dogs.

"However, it's not just the pets we should be feeling sorry for," according to Saga.

"The cost of treating these clumsy animals is potentially huge for the 71 per cent of pet owners who are uninsured in the UK."

In September, Saga Insurance launched a car insurance price comparison site for over-50s.
