Tesco Insurance: Vet fees cause for concern

New research from Tesco Insurance has found that the cost of routine visits to the vets has risen by over 20 per cent in the last five years.

It cites a study by Mintel, which revealed 38 per cent of pet owners are concerned that they cannot easily afford insurance for their pets.

Pet owners who do not have insurance for their animals could be left with the difficult choice of paying thousands of pounds in medical bills if their pet becomes ill or injured, or being forced to put it down.

Allan Burns, head of Tesco Pet Insurance, said: "Vets fees are becoming more expensive and it is important to know that in the event of an accident or unexpected illness your pet's medical treatment can be paid for."

Tesco is now offering a 40 per cent discount to customers buying pet insurance online or 20 per cent for those purchasing over the phone, until April 2nd 2008.

Earlier this week the company announced it is launching a specialist motorbike insurance price comparison site.
