Halifax Insurance issues storm advice

As storms and high tides batter the UK, Halifax Insurance has issued homeowners with advice for protecting themselves and assured its customers that it is "well prepared" to deal with their claims.

The Met Office has forecast more bad weather tonight, with homes in the Bristol Channel, Severn Estuary and Somerset coast particularly at risk from flooding.

It recommends that homeowners take precautionary measures before a flood hits, including putting sandbags outside doors and windows and moving furniture upstairs.

Halifax Insurance also suggests that for homes at risk of wind damage, occupants should secure any loose outdoor items and prepare an 'emergency kit', including torches, batteries and warm clothing.

Martyn Foulds, senior claims manager at Halifax Home Insurance, said: "We anticipate more calls coming in as the storm worsens and we are fully prepared for this."

Halifax Home Insurance offers home emergency cover for an extra £4 a month, which guarantees the provision of an approved tradesperson to secure the customer's property within hours.

Lloyds TSB Insurance reported a 150 per cent increase in the number of new claims it registered yesterday morning, March 10th, compared to a typical Monday.
