Barclays: Investors remain confident in a troubled market

Barclays Stockbrokers has revealed that investors remain confident, despite declining market conditions.

Many are taking the opportunity to benefit from falling share prices, with more than half of active traders and investors planning to buy in the current volatile financial climate.

Perhaps surprisingly, Barclays has found that a significant number of investors still have long-term confidence in the market, with 37 per cent opting against selling their stocks.

Amy Nauiokas, managing director and head of Barclays Stockbrokers, said this research demonstrates that investors are self-assured and keen to use "increasingly sophisticated techniques to maximise their returns".

"With investors having better access to a broad range of market and product types there is clearly more scope for confident choices and bold decisions," she added.

While investors may be feeling secure, volatility in the global economy and a downturn in the UK's property market has caused consumer confidence to fall.
